Subject: great phamily reunion
there are a host of p&f shows out there that are far more stellar. HOWEVER, in the context of this historic day, phil was more than generous.
as memory serves, the band was playing as i wound my way down to a 20th row center seat. i was elated to be seeing p&f. they were strong, as always. all the folks around me were excited and expected to see warren on stage with the boys later; never happened.
of course, this is not the quintet's finest set ever. but remember, this was around 1pm, with the other ones slated to come on stage at around 8pm. it was a treat, and felt intimate since the shed at alpine was so "uncrowded."
later that day (or the next), we got to see jorma and blue country and a solo warren show on the side stage. jorma was awesome and warren was joined by rob barracco (on guitar!) for one of the sweetest stella blues (rob vocals).
the other ones' sets later that night were fantastic, some of the best of the post-jerry era. check out gdlive and get it. then, start your day with this cd, fill in 6 more hours of fabulous music, then play the other ones sets. by that time, you'll be "getting" the scope of this long day.
three stars because of the quality (a board would be nice) and because it ain't 4-20-01, hartford '01, or the new year's blow out of that year.
